Needle Aponeurotomy Risks
Below is a list of some risks involved with the needle aponeurotomy or needle release.
- There is no cure for Dupuytren's disease. The goal of the procedure is to straighten fingers and better their function. The usual correction averages 80-90%. Recurrence rate is 30-50% in five years (similar to open surgery).
- Minor adverse events were: small cracks and breaks in the skin (about 1 in 20), minor infections (less than .01%), tingling of the fingers (briefly following) and bruising.
- More severe events were flexor tendon disruptions and nerve lacerations with an extremely low incidence of less than one in 2,000 (fewer than with open surgery).
